The Black Watch
British regiment in Basra prepares to back-up US forces near Baghdad.
Iraq, 2004. Part of a series of short videos I filmed
while working in Iraq for the BBC from 2003 to 2018.
This shows a religious service in the desert near Basra for about 500 soldiers of The Black Watch regiment of the British Army before they were deployed to the 'Triangle of Death' in central Iraq to support US forces in their fight against 'Saddam remnants' in unholy alliance with al Qaeda in Iraq - which was created thanks largely to the 2003 invasion by the USA and the UK.
Al Qaeda in Iraq morphed into ISIS with its 'caliphate based in Iraq's second city Mosul.
