The war against Iraq, which defeated dictator Saddam Hussein but which led to at least 100,000 civilian deaths and which helped to create ISIS.

I received the Gold and Silver Sony Radio Academy Journalist of the Year awards in 2004 and 2005. I was also awarded Deuxième Prix three times at the Bayeux-Calvados war correspondents' awards in Normandy.

After the end of the Iraq war and the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003, I went there about thirty times (I counted the visas!).

The Iraq war was the most recent unprovoked international conflict before Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
